What are Packaging Labels? Every packaged food or beverage product features a label that provides essential information about its nutritional value. According to the Food and Drug Administration (BPOM), it’s important to read the packaging label carefully, as this serves as a guideline for balanced nutrition.

The back of the package typically includes details about food composition and nutrition, such as information on macronutrients (fats, proteins, carbohydrates, including sugars) and micronutrients, along with serving sizes. Food composition lists the ingredients in the product, starting from the most present to the least.

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), the recommended sugar consumption guideline is 19 grams per day, which is equivalent to 4 teaspoons. This amount of sugar is typically indicated on the packaging, as seen in products like sweetened condensed milk and coffee sachets.

Additionally, it’s important to check the expiration date or “best by” date on food products. Consuming expired food carries risks, and it is advisable to avoid packaged foods that do not have an expiration date.

Avoid purchasing items that may have quality or flavor changes after the use-by date. Additionally, steer clear of packaged foods that contain excessive preservatives, sugar, or additives.
